We would like to remind parents of our current students that priority registration for the Spring Term has now begun.
As always, in order to help ensure continuity of teaching and learning, we would like to give priority to students already attending the lessons to book their place in the upcoming term before we offer any available places to pupils on our waiting list.
Current students' places in the group lessons are reserved until Friday, the 2nd of December; please make sure to book your place in the Spring Term before this deadline in order to secure your place.

In this week's Senior Tutor Update, Vivek highlights the fact that the Trefoil team are already beginning their preparations for the final few weeks of term before we wrap up for the Christmas break as our term ends on the 11th of December. Vivek also reminds students of the benefits of attending lessons in person rather than calling in remotely and encourages them to come to lessons face-to-face whenever possible. If attending remotely, Vivek reminds students of four key tips to make the most of online learning. Finally, Vivek notes that priority registration invoices for the Spring Term will be sent this week.

In this week's Senior Tutor Update, Vivek congratulates tutees and their parents for maintaining such a high attendance rate to lessons despite the earlier nights and the deteriorating weather. Vivek reminds parents that students can attend lessons virtually if needed, but requests that we are informed at least 24 hours before the lesson in order to ensure that marked work can be scanned in and uploaded onto the portal. Vivek informs parents that they will have received an email regarding a potential work experience programme at Trefoil, the three job vacancies at Trefoil and a request for the 11+ Grammar School results. Finally, Vivek informs parents that the next round of academic monitoring has taken place and parents may be receiving an email regarding their child's assessment score from Week 6.

As our current Year 6 students near the final - albeit the most crucial - period of their 11+ journey, on Monday, 17th October, we held an 11+ Advice Evening for the parents of our Year 4 and Year 5 students who are embarking on their 11+ journeys now.
We would like to thank the parents who attended the Advice Evening - it was a pleasure seeing so many parents of our Year 4 and Year 5 students gathered at Trefoil Tutors for the first event we organised this term!

In this week's Senior Tutor Update video, Vivek welcomes our students back for the second half of the Autumn Term which commences on Monday 31st October. Vivek also welcomes the almost 20 new joiners who will be starting lessons with us this week. Vivek reminds us all to make the most of the Autumn Term where the pressures of external exams are still a long way away for all but our Year 6, Year 11 and Year 13 students. Finally, Vivek reminds us all to pick up the excellent routines we were working with before the Half Term break with regards to pens, filing and corrections. With the start of the new Half Term, our Director of Operations Armine reminds parents of our parking procedures and reflects on the array of successful events we have hosted in the past weeks, including a Parents' Open Afternoon, an 11+ Parents' Advice Evening and 11+ mock examinations. Finally, Armine notes that parents should expect an email about our work experience programme in the coming days.

We hope that all our students and their parents enjoyed a relaxing Half Term break. Today, Monday, the 31st of October, we resume the Autumn Term and welcome all our students back to our group lessons.
We are also delighted to welcome a new cohort of students joining our Year 4, Year 10 and Year 11 lessons!
We look forward to seeing you all in our classrooms this week!

We are delighted to share with you the positive feedback contributed by the parents of students who have attended our group lessons and found these enjoyable and beneficial to their learning.
“Ideally, I would say 11+ preparation is a two year journey - with Daniyal we didn’t have a choice because we’d moved from Singapore, so he started in Year 5, and I know that if Daniyal had started in Year 4 he would have done even better. They are young children - you can’t cram it all in, in one year. The lessons are very structured, and Daniyal did the Summer Lessons in August as well for both English and Maths - that was very, very helpful. The Summer Lessons are intense, they are tailored towards students practising past papers and they are coming two days a week for each subject. Additionally, it’s in August so the timing is really good as well.”

From all of us at Trefoil, we would like to wish you a very happy Diwali!

To support our students' preparations for their 11+ examinations, our Lead Mathematics Tutor, Vivek Gathani, would like to share a selection of problem-solving questions with answers he has written for his students.
Parents often enquire about practice questions similar in type and difficulty to those found towards the middle and end of Independent School papers. The sets of questions Vivek has prepared pick up on techniques we teach our students in lessons in the run-up to these examinations. We thought it may be beneficial to share these with the wider community.
To access the problem solving questions and the corresponding answers, please follow the link below:
We hope you find these useful!

The Half Term break is an excellent opportunity for students to pursue their reading interests without the constraints of a usual school timetable.
In order to encourage students to explore different authors, styles and genres, as well as help them develop a love of literature, our Lead English Tutor Milda has compiled a list of twelve book recommendations for each year group from Year 3 to Year 11. The books on the list range from timeless classics to recent releases. As they go through the list, students will become familiar with the work of world-famous writers and meet iconic book characters.
To download the Recommended Reading List, please click read more and follow the link for your Year Group.
We hope that students will explore these not only during the Half Term, but also throughout the academic year!
Many of the books on the list are available to borrow from our office library. Please speak to our Lead English Tutor, Milda, if you are looking for a specific title.
Happy reading!

As we begin our October Half Term break, we know that parents may be looking for engaging and interactive ways to keep their children entertained over the holidays. Below are ten activities we recommend for a fun and educational Half Term break.
As the evenings begin to get a little longer, travel to Paris from the comfort of your own home where you can scroll through interactive galleries featuring van Gogh, Cézanne, Degas, and learn more about the architecture of the building in the online exhibit.

2. Shakespeare’s Globe: Learn Online
The Globe Theatre is offering a number of online resources for a variety of age groups. These include storytellings and workshops exploring the subtext of many of Shakespeare’s most well-known plays and the ways in which they matter to our modern age.

As we complete the first Half Term of the academic year, we are delighted to see students begin to establish good routines in their learning. In order to help students practise little and often during their holidays in an attempt to keep academic regression at bay, our Lead Mathematics, English and Science tutors have prepared a set of holiday work for each year group, which is now available on our website.
We have made these free resources accessible through our website, so please do feel free to share this material with siblings, friends, neighbours, or whoever you feel would benefit from a little extra revision!

In this week's Senior Tutor Update video, Vivek congratulate tutees, their parents, tutors and the office team for an exceptional first Half Term of the academic year. Vivek informs us that the office will be closed from Monday, 17th October and Sunday, 30th October inclusively. Vivek encourages us all to use the two-week Half Term to relax and recharge our batteries, ahead of a big six-week Half Term before Christmas. Once those batteries are recharged, Vivek encourages students and parents to look to the newsletter for inspiration on how to use the break effectively by going on one of the recommended educational activities, completing the holiday work or reviewing their folders.
Wishing you a restful Half Term break!
