After a relaxing half-term break, we look forward to welcoming all our students back to lessons today. Did you notice that we have already reached the half-way mark of the academic year?

As we prepare for the first week of lessons after the half term break, our Senior Tutor Vivek welcomes the cohort of new students who will join our lessons next half term, encouraging them to develop good learning routines from their very first lessons. Furthermore, Vivek celebrates the outstanding set of 11+ results that our Independent School candidates have received last week. Finally, Vivek reminds our students that the new set of holiday work has been published on our website and is freely available to all those who would like to keep practising their Mathematics and English during the break.

As we complete the first half of the Spring term, we are delighted to see students continuing to follow good routines in their learning. In order to help students practise little and often during their holidays in order to keep academic regression at bay, our lead Mathematics and English tutors have prepared a set of holiday work which is now available on our website.

A few days ago, I replied to a post from a parent whose child received offers from multiple secondary schools asking for advice about how to decide between them. Since then, I have had no fewer than five wonderful phone calls with parents in similar, enviable, positions.

Therefore, I thought it would be beneficial to record a short video extending my advice to the broader 11+ community in the hope that it will help parents who are facing similar decisions.

Good luck in making your choice and I hope you and your child have a successful transition into Year 7 at your chosen secondary school!

In this week's Senior Tutor Update, Vivek congratulates students, parents, tutors and the office team for successfully completing the first half of the Spring Term and wishes everyone a relaxing break.

"When I come to Mr G, at the start of the lesson, I may struggle with a few topics but as soon as I come out, I’m confident with them. I can go to school, I know what I’m doing in the test. The way Mr G teaches is fun, it’s animated and he’s always willing to have a chat about different maths and make it fun at the same time."

As we begin the final week of lessons before the half term break, we would like to remind students that they will be sitting a 30-minute assessment in their lessons this week. Do remember to review your classwork notes and homework assignments in preparation!

In this week's video, our Senior Tutor Vivek and Director of Studies Rebecca help students prepare for the final week of the half term, maintain energy levels and successfully revise for the upcoming assessments.

In this week's Senior Tutor Update, Vivek shares his insights about the deluge of worksheets, videos and tutor adverts that have flooded our social media feeds this lockdown, reminding parents to carefully and critically choose the content their children use in their learning.

“With the accelerated group lessons, we move through the topics quicker than we would in school. This also helps a lot when we start the topics in school and I already know how to do it, so I find it easier. Vivek explains everything really well!”

The interview is an exciting opportunity to learn more about the school you are applying for, as well as help the school get to know you – their potential new student!

We would like to say a big congratulations to all the students who have sat their 11+ entrance exams this year and successfully got through this demanding process in the face of many unexpected changes to the admissions procedures.
