In this week's Senior Tutor Update video, Vivek begins by hoping that students, parents, tutors and the office team took on his advice to use the Easter Break to decompress and relax. Equally, Vivek reminds students to complete the holiday work if they have not done so yet and to organise their files ready for the first lesson of the Term, Vivek encourages us all to keep the excellent momentum from the first two terms going as we enter the final term of the academic year. The Summer Term is filled with distraction, be that sports days, music concerts and residential trips and, although it's important to partake in these, it's equally important it doesn't come at the cost of the our contact time. With this in mind, Vivek remind students to keep up their good practices in the push for both internal and external examinations. The time and effort invested in this term will undoubtedly pay off in both the short and long term. Finally, Vivek draws similarity between the academic year and running a marathon; remember it is an 18 mile warm up followed by an 8 mile race.

In order to help students practise little and often during their holidays and keep academic regression at bay, our Mathematics, Further Mathematics, English and Science tutors Vivek, Chris, Milda and Rebecca have prepared a set of holiday work assignments. Based on the material covered throughout the Spring Term, the assignments are a great way to help students review the topics from the term just gone as well as make a running start for the term to come.

Today we celebrate International Children’s Book Day!
International Children's Book Day is a yearly event sponsored by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), an international non-profit organisation. Founded in 1967, the day is observed on or around Hans Christian Andersen’s birthday, 2nd April. Andersen is most famous for writing over 156 fairy tales in his lifetime. His original tales include The Emperor’s New Clothes, The Little Mermaid, The Princess and the Pea, The Ugly Duckling and Thumbelina.
This year’s chosen theme is ‘I am a book, read me’.

Every year on 1st April, April Fool’s Day is celebrated in many countries around the world. On this day, people traditionally play practical jokes on each other and have fun trying to make other people believe things that are not true.
In the UK, jokes and tricks can be played up until 12pm on 1st April. After midday, it's considered bad luck to play a trick.
From all of us at Trefoil, we hope you enjoy April Fool’s Day and be prepared for any surprises!

The John Locke Institute is holding their annual essay competition and registration opens today, 1st April.
Open to students aged between 14 and 18, the competition encourages young people to cultivate the characteristics that turn good students into great writers: independent thought, depth of knowledge, clear reasoning, critical analysis and persuasive style. The competition invites students to explore a wide range of challenging and interesting questions in seven subjects: Philosophy, Politics, Economics, History, Psychology, Theology and Law. There is also a Junior Prize, available for students aged 14 and under.

In this week's Senior Tutor Update, Vivek does his best to impersonate a news anchor, summarising some of the many exciting projects taking place at Trefoil Tutors. Vivek reminds parents to book in the parent report meetings with their child's tutor(s) in order to keep all three vertices of the tutoring triangle on the same page. Vivek reminds parents that the deadline for priority registration has now passed as has the deadline for completing the declarations of interest. Furthermore, Vivek reminds parents of students in Years 10, 11 and 12 of the A Level Options and Careers Afternoon taking place on Saturday 1st April. Finally, Vivek reminds students to start bringing their Trefoil water bottles to lessons as the weather starts to heat up!

As our Sixth Form students have now received most of their offers, they face the tough decision of choosing their destinations for the next 3-4 years. This seems like an apt time to remind parents and students that our tutors are more than happy to share their advice and experience on choosing the right university or study programme.
University ratings are also very helpful when considering your options – do have a look at the updated The Times Higher Education World University Rankings: https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/2023/world-ranking
If there's anything we can do to help make your decision easier, please don't hesitate to get in touch!

The clocks will go forward in the early hours of tomorrow morning from 1am to 2am. This change in time is called daylight savings and it occurs twice a year; the clocks go forward in March, and backwards in October. This means that we are now entering British Summer Time (BST) and there will be more light in the evenings.
Don’t forget to change your clocks!

At Trefoil Tutors, we value the importance of maintaining an ongoing conversation between parents, tutors and students as a key factor in maintaining tutee progress and development. As the Spring Term comes to an end, we would therefore like to invite parents to book a meeting to speak to your child’s tutor and discuss their progress throughout the academic year so far. These meetings will build on the personalised feedback the tutors upload to the online portal every week.
