INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S BOOK DAY

Amar, April 2, 2024

Today we celebrate International Children’s Book Day!

International Children's Book Day is a yearly event sponsored by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), an international non-profit organisation. Founded in 1967, the day is observed on or around Hans Christian Andersen’s birthday, 2nd April. Andersen is most famous for writing over 156 fairy tales in his lifetime. His original tales include The Emperor’s New Clothes, The Little Mermaid, The Princess and the Pea, The Ugly Duckling and Thumbelina.

This year’s chosen theme is "Cross the Seas on the Wing of your Imagination"

IBBY Japan is the official sponsor of ICBD 2024 with a letter being composed for the children of the world by Eiko Kadono, a prominent Japanese author and winner of the 2018 HC Andersen Award for writing and the poster has been designed by Nana Furiya, an international-minded Japanese artist living in Slovakia. These are centred around the idea of ‘Imagination’ as JBBY believes that fostering imagination will lead to ‘mutual understanding and a spirit of tolerance.’
