As we begin the new academic year, our Senior Tutor Vivek welcomes new and returning students to our lessons that begin on Monday, the 6th of September. Vivek introduces students and parents to the Welcome Booklet that students will receive in their first lesson and summarises the Covid-19 measures that are implemented in accordance with our Covid-19 policy.

With the new school year around the corner, the start of September brings a big change to thousands of students who will be making the transition from primary to a secondary school. Last year, our lead tutor Vivek Gathani published a video sharing his advice about making the most of the experience and supporting your son or daughter through this exciting - albeit sometimes daunting - moment of their school life. As we begin a new academic year, we would like to share his tips with you.

Having worked at Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School for four years as a teacher, Year 7 form tutor and deputy housemaster, Vivek is closely familiar with the day-to-day opportunities and challenges the students face in a new school.

Nik joins us as a Tutor of Mathematics, offering additional Year 9 and Year 10 Mathematics classes to students preparing for the upcoming GCSE examinations.

Nik comes to the Trefoil Tutors team with over 7 years of experience as Teacher of Mathematics at Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School.

With a number of Grammar School 11+ examinations taking place in the coming weeks, we are delighted to offer a FREE 11+ entrance English mock paper to help students with their revision. The mock paper is written by our lead English tutor Milda, a full-time tutor who has been preparing pupils for 11+ entrance examinations to Grammar and Independent Schools since 2013.

The mock paper is modelled on 11+ entrance papers to top Grammar Schools in the North London area.

Rebecca is our Director of Studies and Lead Science and Reasoning Tutor. Rebecca has a BSc (ARCS) in Biochemistry from Imperial College, London, a PGCE through the Teach First Programme and a postgraduate qualification in Educational Leadership from the Institute of Education. With 10 years of teaching experience, Rebecca comes to Trefoil from her role as Director of Science at Verulam School in St Albans.

Following enquiries from a number of parents, we are delighted to confirm we will be running Mathematics, English and Reasoning mock examinations for pupils who are preparing to sit 11+ entrance examinations to grammar schools in September 2021. The mock examinations are modelled on 11+ entrance examination papers to grammar schools in the area.

With 11+ Grammar School examinations taking place over the next few weeks, our Senior Mathematics Tutor, Vivek Gathani, has written a mock examination which we are delighted to share with you for free.

During his time as a Mathematics teacher at Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School, Vivek helped mark and write the 11+ examination. Vivek is a qualified teacher with over 13 years experience in private tutoring.

Milda is our Registrar and Lead English Tutor. Milda has a BA(hons) Politics degree from the University of York and an MSc in Conflict Resolution and Governance from the University of Amsterdam. Milda is an outstanding full-time tutor with over five years of experience in private tutoring and ten years of working with educational youth charities in the UK and abroad. Milda tutors English Language and Literature to pupils from Y3 to GCSE.

The summer holidays are an important time for students to take a break and recharge their batteries – at the same time, this year more than ever, parents and teachers alike worry about academic regression which may make the start of the new academic year harder than expected.

To help students tackle this, our senior tutor, Vivek Gathani, has prepared a set of free Mathematics summer revision assignments for students from Year 3 to Year 12 to keep them practising their mathematics regularly. These are written in the same style as the homework assignments students receive at the end of each of our small group lessons at Trefoil Tutors. The assignments are accompanied by corresponding answer sheets.

Vivek founded Trefoil Tutors in 2011 with the aim of bringing a new level of professionalism to tutoring. Vivek is the company’s Senior Tutor, Lead Mathematics Tutor and Child Protection Officer. With a BSc Mathematics degree from the University of Warwick and a PGCE in Mathematics from the University of Oxford, Vivek has over 14 years’ experience in private tuition as well as four years’ experience of teaching Mathematics at Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School.

We know that each new academic year comes with a new stack of books. If you find yourself not knowing what to do with your old coursebooks and set texts, we would be more than happy to add the books you no longer wish to keep to our library and give an opportunity for our younger students to use them in their work.
