Trefoil Tutors at the 5th annual LBD charity brunch

Today, our senior tutor Vivek Gathani and lead English tutor Milda Sabunaite were invited to represent Trefoil Tutors at the 5th annual LBD charity brunch. Vivek delivered a short presentation, offering parents his professional advice about finding high-quality tutoring for their children. All donations collected at the event went to the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital based in Elstree. We would like to thank the LBD charity for welcoming us to the event!

Meet our new Tutor Coordinator

We are happy to introduce you to Emilija Cekaviciute, our new Tutor Coordinator, who is taking the role over from Michaela and will be taking care of our team of tutors, as well as helping to find the right tutor for our new tutees. Emilija is currently in her third year of pursuing her BSc in Education Studies and will bring valuable insights into education management to our team.

Meet our new Office Administrator

We are delighted to announce that our management team at Trefoil Tutors has been joined by Jovana Djordjic, who will be taking over as our new Office Administrator. Currently studying Business Management at the University of Roehampton, Jovana will be taking care of our office on a day-to-day basis, and will act as the first point of contact for students attending lessons at our Elstree office. EDUCATIONAL Q&A VIDEO 14: STUDYING ENGLISH AS A NON-NATIVE SPEAKER

In this week's video, our lead English tutor Milda speaks about studying English as a non-native speaker and offers her advice on how students who speak a different first language can keep their English language skills at a high level. Milda highlights the importance of the student interacting with different styles and genres of English in their day-to-day life, and suggests ways of ensuring that the language learning is not limited to the classroom.

11+ English and Mathematics mock examinations

Vaiva, Oct. 4, 2018

Following enquiries from a number of parents, we are delighted to inform you that during the October half-term and the Christmas holidays we will be running Mathematics and English mock examinations for pupils who are preparing to sit 11+ entrance examinations to independent schools this January.

The mock examinations are modelled on 11+ entrance examination papers to independent schools in the area.

Having run these 11+ mock examinations for the last two years, we have collected comparable scores for students and their subsequent secondary school destinations.

The mocks will take place at our premises in Elstree (5 Theobald Court, Theobald Street, WD6 4RN).

The students will have the opportunity to sit a different Mathematics mock examination paper and an English mock examination paper each day.

Trefoil hoodies for group lessons students

With over 160 students attending our group lessons, we were very excited to include our brand new Trefoil hoodies in this year's student welcome packs! The new piece of merchandise is certainly not a compulsory uniform; however, we do hope they will keep you warm in the coming autumn months.

New Tutor Induction

Vaiva, Sept. 13, 2018

On Sunday, the 9th of September, we held our Tutor Induction Day and welcomed five new tutors to our team. We are delighted to have Shrina and Kyal joining us as Economics tutors, Neil and Meghna as Science tutors, and Nikhil tutoring Mathematics and Physics. After a careful selection process from over 50 applications, we are glad to recommend the five new tutors to students looking for one-to-one lessons in their specialist subjects. During the tutor induction, the new tutors received training on key pedagogical concepts later covered in our Professional Development Programme, and underwent a detailed review of our Code of Conduct.

Happy new (academic) year!

After a summer of preparations, today, our team were thrilled to launch a new academic year at Trefoil Tutors. We start the term with an additional classroom at our premises, five new tutors joining our team, a bank of newly written worksheets and some very exciting surprises for students attending lessons this week.

We are thrilled to welcome back our students from last year, and greet the ones joining us for the first time.

Last chance to receive a £200 full-year discount!

Following enquiries from a number of parents, we are delighted to announce that we will continue to apply the £200 full-year booking discount until the 9th of September. So far, 17% of parents have booked their child's place in the group lessons for the full academic year and have received the £200 discount.

The discount is applied when a student's place is booked for the full academic year (36 lessons). The discount can be combined with our 10% sibling or multiple subject discount.

Personal Statement Workshop and UCAS Advice Evening with Vivek Gathani

On Friday, the 24th of August, we hosted our first advice evening for A-level students and their parents on the topic of applying to universities and writing a good personal statement. The workshop was run by Vivek Gathani, our lead Mathematics tutor and a former UCAS advisor at Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School.

The fourteen participants of the workshop received advice about the application process and looked into the specifics of writing a good personal statement for their UCAS applications. After discussing the content and language of personal statement, parents and students had a chance to brainstorm ideas for their own personal statement, as well as ask questions and discuss the intricacies of successfully applying to particular universities with Vivek.

ANNUAL TREFOIL TUTORS BBQ PARTY

Having concluded the academic year, on the 14th of July, we invited our tutors and all those who supported us throughout the year to our annual Trefoil BBQ party as a way to say thank you and celebrate the start of the summer break.

A day full of chatter, good food and games was a great way to end the year. We would like to say a big thank you to all our guests and wish you a lovely summer!

A NEW TRADITION: TREFOIL TUTORS PARENTS’ SOCIAL EVENING

To mark the end of the academic year, on the 29th of June, we invited the parents of our pupils to our first Parents’ Social Evening as a way of saying thank you for their support throughout the year.

Held at Blue Ginger restaurant, the evening was a lovely way to get to know the parents of our students better and enjoy an evening of great food and interesting conversations. Parents also took part in a quiz our tutors had prepared for the evening.

We would like to thank all the parents that attended the social evening and wish you all a relaxing summer!
