To fully prepare our prospective 11+ candidates for their examinations, at Trefoil Tutors, we have created a comprehensive course that covers Mathematics, English and Reasoning (both verbal and non-verbal). For Mathematics and English, this process begins in January of Year 3. We then introduce our students to the Reasoning course in January of Year 4. Having built a solid foundation in their reading, writing, numeracy and geometry skills in Year 3, we build upon these in Year 4 where we can further develop the skills required to successfully engage with the 11+ content. Once the course is taught, students begin 11+ papers which are given to students in an appropriate order.
We have tailored aspects of our course to the requirements of the entrance exams at Independent and Grammar Schools in the area, but have done so without compromising our fundamental belief that outstanding teaching and learning is best developed over time.
It is important to mention that at Trefoil Tutors, we do not teach our 11+ content solely with the final examinations in mind. Rather, the curriculum is taught in a way which promotes building a solid foundation in the subject. With this approach, students arrive at their chosen secondary schools with an excellent framework from which to accommodate the Key Stage 3 material taught at Secondary School.
