Using the national curriculum as their skeleton, our Lead Tutors have designed detailed and comprehensive schemes of work followed in our lessons. Materials are expertly prepared with notes, classwork sheets, assignment sheets and assessments to help navigate students through each Key Stage. In order to gain the full benefit of our group lessons, we recommend students join us at the start of a Key Stage, or, failing that, at the start of an academic year. For 11+ students, this is in January of Year 3, for students transitioning into secondary school this is in September of Year 7, for GCSE students this is in September of Year 9 and for A Level students this is in the Summer after their GCSE examinations.
This idea of maximum coverage helps to minimise stress, promotes good long-term teaching and learning, generates enjoyment and offers a sense of completeness. This also helps us manage students’ energy, confidence and motivation with the overall-goal of creating engaged, intrinsically motivated and confident learners.
Furthermore, we know that students’ enjoyment is usually inversely proportional to the time remaining until their external examination. Starting at the beginning of the Key Stage allows us the time and space to teach relationally and develop stronger conceptual links for the students; teaching the subject properly, rather than teaching for an exam.
We seek to foster positive educational routines and a life-long love of learning that will serve to underpin the way in which our students approach their future studies.
